It features clips of Simpson defending his advocacy of raising more revenue during the failed budget deliberations in 2011.The video shows Simpson being asked by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday about his Americans for Tax Reform pledge not to raise taxes. Simpson said: “I signed that in 1998 when I first ran, I didn’t know I was signing a marriage agreement that would last forever.”The group didn’t include Simpson’s additional statement in the broadcast that “a majority of members of Congress understand that you have to have addition revenue” to close the budget deficit. That’s because tax revenue had decreased from 18 percent to 14 percent of gross domestic product as expenditures have risen from 19 percent to 25 percent of GDP, Simpson said.
